How long should I wait before I start reestablishing credit?

My 341 meeting was on Nov.19, 2008 and it was a breeze. I'm not sure how long I'd have to wait before I receive my discharge papers, yet I'm really interested in re-establishing my credit asap!

I'm not sure which direction to start when it comes down to re-establishing after ch.7. I really don't want a credit card, but what are my options as far as:

    1. When to start applying for credit?

    2. What type of credit to apply for?

Btw, I still have my car that I have reaffirmation papers on(dabating if I want to reaffirm).

If I reaffirmed, would that help?

    Thx in advance.

I was only 2 hours. lOL!

Anyways. You're best credit healer is time. The reaffirmation will help.....but in the future. Not to mention, with the economic crisis going on, not many lenders are willing to lend.

In any case, the first thing you should do after your discharge is pull your credit report from all 3 agencies and ensure that all accounts are reported correctly. Then if you feel you desire a new CC, there is a "Recommended Credit Cards" thread under the "Rebuilding Section" of the forum and there are plenty of recommendations..............too many CC's to list here.

Remember what may have got you and most of us into BK in the first place..............not using credit wisely, so be disciplined about it and before you know it, your credit may better than it has been it years.

Debbie, there is an entire forum called "Rebuilding Credit" and there's lots of discussion of this issue there. Just go to the main page and scroll down.

I doubt your reaffirm will help that much. But that's OK. You start slow and build up there. Many people get secured credit cards. Others start with very low allowance store cards.

Check out the "Rebuilding Credit" section and you'll find a wealth of wisdom and stories.
