What do you take to consultation

I am hoping to file chapter 7. I want to keep the house and pay mortgage payments. I want to keep my car which is paid for. I am current with cc payments but am struggling. I have not called for legal consult but need to know what I need to take with me to proceed. Thank you for your help.

    Hi,

Take a few of your paystubs, the amount you owe to the creditors and your expenses (I use Quicken, so it was easy for me to make a list of my out going expenses). I didn't bring my tax returns, although I know a few posters on this board did. Ask your attorney, they will give you a list of things they want you to bring. Remember to interview 3-4 different attorneys and go with the one you feel most comfortable with.

    Good Luck!

When I went to my consultations I didn't take anything. I pretty much know all of my figures by heart. Its usually when you go back for a follow up or decide to retain their services they will give you a list of items they will need. I took a binder and made copies of everything and put it all together and handed them the whole packet, they said they weren't used to someone being so prepared.

You generally don't need to bring anything, but you should be prepared to tell you attoreny

          1. Monthly GROSS income
          2. Total amount of Credit card debt
          3. Total amounts of other types of unsecured debt (medical bills, student loans, etc)
          4. Payment and balance due on all secured debt (i.e. car loans, mortgages).
          5. If you have ever filed BK before.
          6. Last major transactions on your credit cards
          7. Approximate current market value of your major assets, cars, home, etc
