    Chapter 7 Inquiry

    Hi All,
My BK attorney is asking 2500 to get us through this ordeal. Does that sound about right ? I may not qualify for a 7, because of my income level, our main concern is the house which we want to keep. Does he negotiate with our mortgage company or is that something I do. I am already in arrears on my mortgage, I also owe property tax as of 12/10/08. I'm being audited also and have a proposed assessment from CA franchise tax board of about 4000.
    Any input at all.
I'm freaking a little but trying to keep things in perspective. I know there are people a lot worse off than us.
    Thanks

I filed in Santa Barbara and paid $1500 including the filing fee.
Of course there are extra fees if something else comes up but mine was straight forward.

          OP, are you in California?

I filed CH 7 in Fl and the fee was $2000 plus filing etc, ended up at just about $2600

Also, you need to be current on your house when you file CH 7. You can file CH 13 and make arrangements for the arreages on your house payment, but not in a 7.
          Filed CH 7 9/30/2008
          Discharged Jan 5, 2009! Closed Jan 18, 2009

I am not an attorney. None of my advice is legal advice in any way..

Can you negotiate "OTHER" unsecured loans such as furniture?
