No, you can't just remove your name. If your name is on the title for a house that has any possibility of any equity, doing so would constitute fraudulent conveyance of an asset! Don't do a thing until find a good lawyer and get some advice. There is a two year look back period into assets in our district.
This won't be the popular answer but I'd get your name removed asap and get powers of attorneys set up and other vehicles. And don't file yet. Who's to say you didn't change your mind and decided to try to pay down. Do your research and plan accordingly!
