If you don't reaffirm stuff- what do u drive and where do u live?

I've seen some posters saying not to reaffirm stuff. How do you get on then?

I kind of want my life to be as seamless as possible. For example, able to drive and live in MY house!

No ones going to finance you a car. I suppose you could buy some cheapie old car for a couple thousand saved up, but it would just die on you.

Well I am living in my same home and driving my same old car. No reaffirmations, but still paying my payments on time as I always have.

    So far no problems.

We didn't reaffirm our car or our house. We paid the car off 6 months after discharge and received the title immediately. We still live in the house and have had no issues. In fact, the bank still reports our timely payments to all 3 credit bureaus, although this doesn't usually happen.

I'm not reaffirming my current car. Infact, I'm looking at letting it go in the BK. It's 99' and I owe 19,000 on it. I found a cheaper car for 4,000 I can finance and it will be like $140 month for 3 years at 18%. However, after the BK I will pay it off way sooner. I sure won't miss my current $392 month car payments!

We are renting a house almost as nice as the one we surrendered. We found a car for sale for $4K that we actually liked, but knew it needed some repairs and a new windshield. We paid a mechanic for an inspection and bought it for $1500. We did about $2K in repairs (clutch, exhaust system, etc.) and we've had no problems. It was quite the lifestyle change from the $48K SUV to a $1500 car, but I smile every time I see it knowing that it's paid for. It's an old Audi and I absolutely love it. I think it might be my favorite car of all time.

I look back and think about how we ended up in a $48K SUV and it was a series of bad decisions. We bought a Jeep that had problems, traded it in for a new Durango (had to buy something more expensive to cover being upside down in the Jeep), then traded in the Durango on an even more expensive SUV to get out from under it. I had zero tolerance for car repairs and in my mind, any payment was better than having to fix a car.

Wrong, there's several companies which will finance you out of bankruptcy. The interest rates may or may not be a tad viscious (I have heard of 12-25%) but they are seeing a major increase in this as many people are way over what they can repay on their current auto.

Web search and you'll find loads of them just waiting for you...Just avoid the "buy here pay here types, boy do they rip you off!

Do you know of the names of any companies? We may end up having to finance a used car and just wondering where to begin. thanks

How do we get from not reaffirming to buying a car?
Don't reaferm and keep the car if you like it. check out your state I looked up WA and it is required but not on a house. If you don't have to don't and keep paying and you can keep the what ever.

Any ideas where I would need to go to look for something like that? That is, whether or not a reaffirmation of a vehicle is required.

I didn't reaffirm my vehicle and have kept paying so far so good. I havne't heard from any member yet of a car be repoed as long as payments have been maintained and this is what I hope for as well cause I don't want to end up with a high rate auto loan after BK so I may as well just keep mine.

We live in MA, and we are 2+ months post-discharge. We didn't reaffirm our car or house, but continue to pay. So far no problems at all. Citi (1st mortgage) continues to send us "Informational only" statements, while our 2nd mortgage (First Horizon) continues to send us regular statements and even continues to report our payments to all three bureaus.

Car is with Chase Auto Finance.

I don't think anyone on here has ever reported a foreclosure/repo simply because they didn't reaffirm

Your lender and / or your district may require that you reaffirm. Others don't as long as you keep your payments current. In our case, our CU required the reaffirmation.

                            Good luck!

i had no idea you could keep these things without reaffirming. Also I will admit that a seamless BK is likely not possible, but as much as I can...
