Should I put my storage bill in someone else's name?

I had to move in with my parents and we put all of out stuff in a storage unit. I put the bill in my name. When I fill out the bankruptcy paperwork do I need to mention this payment? I am not behind and never have been. Do you only put places that you owe money to? I just don't want this bill to get mixed up in the bk because I don't want to lose the few possessions I have.

    Thanks as always!

You have to be totally honest with everything otherwise you are going to get yourself in hot water. never lied or hide anything. Why would you have to put the storage in someone elses name anyway? You are allowed a certain amount of exemptions depending on what state you live in. google the state in which you live in for the exemptions.

I guess I should have been more clear. I am including the possessions in my storage unit in my bankruptcy and most of them are safe under the exemptions for my state. I was wondering if had to put the storage place on my bk even though I am current. I was scared that if I put them on the paperwork, it will be misunderstood that I wanted them included and then I will lose my storage unit along with my possessions. Is that more clear?

You have to list all of your utilities and other bills on your BK paperwork. As long as they are exmept you should not have a problem. Do you pay for the storage unti out of your checking account? Its probably in your benefit to list that payment cause it will bring down your income more and it will look better for the BK.

Since you have to make a monthly payment in order to store your stuff, your storage place IS a creditor. You will have to list it.

Actually, would the storage area be a creditor? You pay for a storage area month-to-month in ADVANCE. Thus no credit. I would ask your lawyer to be certain but I don't believe this is a debt. Now on your Schedule J should include it but I don't believe the creditor matrix should include it.

I don't believe the OP is trying to hide anything but does not want the owner of the storage area to think she will stop paying them causing them to slap a lock on her storage area, then sell off her possessions...

I disagree somewhat. I didn't list my cell phone in my creditors because I am current and don't "owe" them any money in terms of back payments, .ate payments, etc. I wouldn't list my storage place, personally, if I were current and wanted to keep things as simple as possible. This, of course, is only talking about the storate "rent" as you should list your possessions as you mentioned as assets.

Should you list the storage place to be proper to the letter of the law? Yes. However, I still wouldn't if I were current and had never been behind. Seems like a very low risk that it would come back to bite you.

Will probably be considered as a living expense, so don't worry about it.

That could be a concern. This is something that the OP needs to talk to the lawyer about.

As I recall, Southernbelle, had equipment in storage. I don't remember the particulars, but perhaps a search on her nickname will yield the details. She also had a Ch7.

You nailed it Bell... I'm not trying to hide anything at all. I have listed all of my possessions that are inside the storage but I just don't want the storage place to think anything is up. They are VERY strict about nonpayment and they don't mess around... they put your stuff up for auction really fast. I would hate for this to happen.

I didn't mean imply that anything was improper. I was just saying that everything needed to be listed. We forgot several things that should have been listed.

We did not include our cell phones, because they are Boost Mobiles, and are pay as you go. Nor do I recall a place to list utilities, unless you have made a deposit to one, as we did with the electric company in order to keep our lights on.

I'm sorry if there was any missunderstanding.

Oh no misunderstanding AngelinaCat :-) All of this bankruptcy stuff is confusing and I just want to hurry up and get mine going but I am so nervous that I am going to goof and mess it all up! Thanks for your comments. I really really appreciate it!

                          all i can say is

that should be considered as an expenditures due to the fact u aint leasing the unit or have any contract with it. the more expenses you got, the more it affect your income the more you are eligible to file Bk. ofcourse the expenses should be necessary. i will put it myself if you ask my opinion.
