    How do I explain this???

My boyfriend and I are filing chapter 7. We just moved into my parents house with our two kids. I am unemployed and my boyfriend is working. He brings home enough money to pay his bills, feed us, gas up the car, and a little extra. My parents don't make us pay any rent because they want us to get back on our feet. Well when we write out my boyfriends expenses/debt to income he comes out on top. He has a little extra. Well we can't live with mom and dad forever but we definetly won't survive on our own somewhere with rent and utilites. There is no way his income would cover all of that. How would he begin to file if it is going to look like he can pay all of his debt just fine? Does this make sense? I know there isn't a box to to write in anything and explain "I don't want to live with the inlaws forever so please approve me for bankruptcy!!" How is this going to look... he is paying everything just fine, but that is because he has no rent or utilites.

    Thanks again everyone!

Can't your in-laws give you receipts showing some kind of rent that you are paying?

Would that work? Would they want to look at their accounts to see if everything added up?

As the previous poster mentioned, ask your in-laws to make out/backdate receipts for rent..
If asked for proof (cancelled checks or whatever) just say that you paid with cash.
