Maybe moving and could use realtor advice...

My DH just got a job offer in DC area and has to let them know by Monday. We thought about driving up there tonight just to look around, we live in FL. I would like to find a realtor that can help us find a place to live. Would it be best to tell them about the BK intention up front? We stopped paying in November and planned on filing around April. I'm sure our credit is in the tank, so I am obviously worried about finding a place to live.

I take it you mean to help you find a rental, right? In that case, I wouldn't say anything about your bk - you haven't even filed yet. If a landlord wants to run a credit check, he/she can, but some won't bother. You haven't filed bk yet, so all that would show is your presumably low credit score. Why give them negative info they haven't even asked for yet?

Yes tell the realtor right up front. That way the Realtor will NOT show you places that they know will not accept BK's or credit scores below the required level. Most owners/LL's are reasonable. But there are some that are not and your Realtor will keep you away from those places. Good luck in your search. Do you have a trusted Realtor in your current local (here in FL)? If you do, speak to your Realtor so they can refer you to someone in the area to which you are relocating.

I do not have a local realtor. I actually looked you up to see where you were from...hoping it was MD! Do you know anyone by any chance?

Are you looking for a rental or a mortgage?If you are not filing until later on I would not tell them about the bk.

I am looking for a rental for now...I'm sure we couldn't get a mortgage with our credit AND those places are way expensive. Its not like they aren't gonna find out about our credit, and I'd rather them know we are responsible and this is a "planned financial decision" mainly because the home we own is so far underwater. I would just like to have a realtor that isnt judgemental about it I guess.
