Hello, I am from columbus, ohio. I am legally separated from my husband and we are both filing chapter 7 separetly. Since the split we can't afford our bills and everything went to hell in a haybasket. Anyway, we have not had our 341 meeting yet and I was wanting to know if anyone here from the boards are from Columbus and what to expect at the hearing? Did they ask for bank statements? Also how was the trustee? Any info would be aprreciated.

Not from Columbus, but from Ohio. For your 341, you'll need to have documents like bank statements, 2 years previous IRS filings, driver's license, SS card and etc. The Trustee may not ask to see these, but it's best to have them on hand in case the Trustee requests to see them. If you hired an attorney to handle your case, more than likely, they will provide you with a list of documents that you'll need for your 341. If not, then ask your attorney what will be necessary to have on hand.

If your BK case is straight forward and you didn't do anything that would raise any red flags, like using CC's for purchases within the allotted timeframes, then your 341 should go quite smoothly.

I'm in Columbus, OH and I just had my 341 hearing this morning. I was nervous because when I got there, my attorney wasn't there!!! My hearing was scheduled for 8:30 but the trustee let me come back at 9:00 while I ran down the street 2 blocks to my attorneys office. Luckily there was another attorney there who had come to work early who pulled my file and went to the hearing with me. The 341 was pretty quick. When you get there you'll go up to a waiting area where you wait to be called. Then you'll go into a "hearing room" where the trustee is sitting at a big table. You and your attorney sit on one side and there's another person like a court reporter or something on the other side. The only thing she asked me for was my driver's license and social security card. I didn't bring any statements or other documentation to the hearing, but I had already given that info to my attorney who had it in my file. She pretty much asked me quick yes/no questions about information I provided in my documents. I did have 1 creditor show up and they just asked me a couple questions about my rental property. It wasn't bad at all. The security guards to the building were pretty friendly.

Thanks for the info, I am nervous about everything we just filed so I am sure it will be awhile before we have our hearing. How soon was your hearing scheduled after you filed?

I filed on 11/20 and my hearing was originally scheduled for 12/30, but I requested a continuance because I was out of town at that time, so it was rescheduled for 1/13.
