What is a pink slip? And these days, the banks don't keep the titles, I have mine and still 2.5 yrs to pay on the van.Comment

A "pink slip" is a CA slang term for the title, and we don't receive them until the car is paid off
Wasn't sure what would happen in this case, since technically the debt was discharged, but we are paying as usual because we want to keep the car...we haven't heard anything from the credit union, in fact, for some bizarro reason they are reporting as a positive on my credit report, not IIB. We just pay with a payment/coupon booklet, we never have received statements, probably because we filed right after we bought the car.
