I received a collection letter the other day from AT&T saying I owed them money for a debt that we had filed under our BK (the orginal creditor was Cingular) It appears they are trying to say it's a new debt? Is this truly covered by our BK or is this going to screw me too?

AT & T bought out Cingular. Along with their assetts they also bought their liabilities. When you filed and included Cingular in your filing and presuambly discharged - that debt is legally history. Send a copy of your discharge notice, your creditor matrix refelting the name Cingular, and tell AT&T to shove it.

That's what I thought...I figured they are just trying to pull a fast one on me. I see it all over my credit report as well where I have "duplicate" collections one from the original creditor and then who ever they sold it too. I think I'm going to call AT&T and give them my case number and let them know where they can stick there notice.

This is common. We called to disconnect our gas and electric at the house we surrendered but the utility company kept the services going and is trying to make us pay for the months after that. I'm pretty sure it costs more than $275 to take us to court, and if they did they wouldn't have a leg to stand on since I have phone records that show I called them the week before filing. It does still irritate me, though.
