    Computer Purchase

I will start by saying we are filing very very soon. At the beginning of December our only computer went out. We took it in to get it fixed but they said it was too old and it was not fixable. So we went to best buy and bought a cheap desktop for 575 with tax and put it on the best buy credit card.

Fast Forward to first of Jan. The computer stops working out of nowhere. I take it in to best buy to get it fixed under manufactures warranty. They tell me it will be 2 days. 2 days come and go. I call and ask whats up. They tell me they have to ship it off and fix it because they do not have the parts there. Fine--whatever-without a computer for another 2 weeks. Well the 2 weeks comes and goes and they don't call. Finally I call them and they say it is being shipped but not there yet-call back. I call back in a couple days and they tell me it is there but I need to call gateway to get the restore cd's so they can install them. This will be another week.

I call Gateway but of course the shippign will take atleast a week. I am so fed up with this. The computer had a bad hard drive they said it was a manufacture defect but they refuse to give me a new computer.

I am considering leaving it there at best buy and not even paying the best buy credit card or picking it up and including the card in bk.
    What do I do?

I’m not sure of what you are posting on but a very good idea to get your money back, especially BEST BUY.

You can get an E-machine from Walmart, or Staples. You paid too much. My brother got one for 399, with flat screen and all that stuff.

I am a computer specialist and if they do a restore, you lose all your personal files. I purchased a 320 gig drive from Staples as a back up stand alone for sixteen bucks. I don’t understand this but I purchased three. If mistake, their problem.

    Look around. ‘Hub

And to make me even more mad about this, I just got a call from the people who replaced the hard drive telling me that in order to save my pictures they want me to pay 300.00 MINIMUM even thought it was a manufacture defect and not my fault and the computer was only 37 days old! Ugh

Let’s put it this way. IF they can save anything, your old hard drive is working. SCAM, MAM. I have 40 years into computers (NCR) and consulting, teaching, [CompUSA} local VoTeck.

I also know computer forensics. If your hard drive spun up, it is good. It may be intermittent, but they are being hard asses. My sincere advice is tell them to keep this lemon, and forget the pictures, and get a refund. BEST BUY in bk is not a good choice. Computers are becoming like Microwave ovens, and VCR’s. Dime a dozen.

Get one elsewhere for sure. Go to the local store manager and ***** until you get your card refunded, then never charge there again. PLEASE.
