    Actually got a tax refund!

It's a short lived happiness but I just got my first return in 15 years. They've been going to student loans this entire time. It's from the state and it's only $648. They also owe me $527 from a previous year and I still need to mail that old return in. Apparently it didn't get filed in 2006 when I did my Federal. I assumed since SL's are a priority debt that bankruptcy or no, it would still go to them.

Not much celebrating since I owe $597 in Federal this year and still have a $900 SL balance but at least I know I can pay those two and be done with it once and for all.

I can't believe it.. for 15 years I've been carrying around this SL debt knowing I'd never see an extra penny thanks to wage garnishments and tax return diversion and I can actually see the end of it this year. Of course my daughter turns 18 this year too so that will be the end of the deduction so this is probably the last time I'll ever see a return! It was a nice surprise though and hopefully an indication of better times ahead!

Thanks. As I said it's just going to pay for the Fed taxes and the student loan that's not discharagable but at least I can put it towards that and don't have to worry how I'm going to pay it off!

My case was dismissed for missing summaries, they were filed but the case ended up being closed due to a clerical error. I motioned to reopen it and vacate the dismissal and it was granted. When the court realized it was their error, they refunded my reopening fee. And yup, all done pro se.

I'm just not used to getting refunds on anything. I'm used to kissing money goodbye and never seeing it again. My life is turning this year. BK fee refunded, taxes refunded, I even got a portion of my security deposit for my old apartment refunded (first time ever!)

          Hey Blanky!

If your kiddo is in school at least half time, you get to claim her! Sign that girly up for some classes.

I claimed my daughter who is 18 as well.

Plus, you get to deduct her tuition for the Hope Lifetime Learning credit.

          Cool stuff!

Yay on the TR and getting that SL debt down, I will be paying until I am in the grave or hit the lottery.

hmmmm, wonder which will come first?
