    owing back taxes?

    i just got a letter in the mail saying i owe 2800 in taxes for 2007. i have already filed and have been discharged through chp 7. is this something i need an attorney for? or is there a way to deal with the irs. im not exactly in a good financial state right now.

    You can make payment arrangements with the IRS, they are not bad to work with if you are proactive. I find going to the local office works better than trying to work with the reps on the phone. JMO. I don't believe that 2007 taxes are dischargable, check the sticky that HHM recently did on income taxes.

      Your BK attorney cannot help you. These taxes are non-dischargeable. Simply call the IRS and make arrangements. Since the tax due is less than $10,000, so long as the payment will payoff the debt in under 36 months, they will accept it without you needing to provide any financial information. (Note, interest continues to accrue while on an IRS payment plan).
