New to site and filing 7

Hi new to forum filing chapter 7 hopefully this week with lawyer or by myself not sure which yet. I thought I would ask couple newbie questions or maybe you can point me in right direction.

Is retaining a lawyer a better way to go then filing myself? I am in michigan and have the districts court form checklist. I can find them myself.

I have about 25K in debt, most are in collection and beyond. I found most them on my credit report but some I need account numbers etc.. whats the best way to get these call them directly and ask?

I think one is trying to serve me a summons now missed the processer the other day to try to collect. Will filing now stop this?

I am unemployed, made 65K last year now off work for 6 months at 350 week, I need to show last years tax when i had a good job does this hurt me? I can prove been collecting unemployement for 6 months well below means test.

Just overwelmed with this all and this is the best place I seen for help.

Anyone else in Eastern MI here? Looking for experience.. to help!

    ty so much.

Unless you are a lawyer yourself, it is always better to be represented. The problem I note here though is getting a good one who will follow through. Try not to prepay the whole amount as they seem to work harder then and respond to your calls. You can file pros se, get the C7 book on Nolo.com.

I found most them on my credit report but some I need account numbers etc.. whats the best way to get these call them directly and ask? Don't call anyone. Since you know these creditors, don't you have any records with the account numbers? Gleen what you can without rocking their boats.

I think one is trying to serve me a summons now missed the processer the other day to try to collect. Will filing now stop this? Don't avoid the service, but you do not have to make it easy. Make is as hard to be served as possible but still keeping it legal. Put off any summons as long as possible. Yes filing will stop service and the suit.

I can prove been collecting unemployement for 6 months well below means test. It is kind of traditional to show your last three years tax returns and last six months of checking. Keep all your unemployment records.

Just overwelmed with this all and this is the best place I seen for help. You are right, it is the best place. You are not suffering anything new that we all have not suffered too. Hang in there, it gets worse, then much better.

Anyone else in Eastern MI here? Looking for experience.. to help! Not from MI but the Courts more/less are the same. some subtle differences here and there, but on this forum, you will have your help. Look up the general bk laws in Federal Statutes. Read ALL the "stickies" and you will have many questions answered that would be redundant to ask again.

      ty so much.

      Welcome aboard. 'Hub

I'm from Western Michigan, and am in the beginning of the process as well.

Sorry to hear how things have been going for you, that has GOT to be rough.

This site is providing me with some needed info and comic relief from others going through a very similar REALLY bad situation.

          Just wanted to say "hey!"
