The tranny went out on my car and I had to replace it, as I drive for a living. My dad bought the thing for $1500 and the one I listed as an asset was the same price, but is now worthless. I own the car and I'm working on his new house to pay him back. My last months income was 1000, so should I say I bought the thing or isn't it a problem working it off for my dad. I want to be honest, but how will the court see this. Either way I'm bankrupt, but now own two cars. The junkyard will give me $100, but it will cost that to tow it there. Any opinions?

You didn't say whether you filed with an attorney or pro se...??
Have you attended your 341 meeting yet?
During the BK process once you have filed you are not supposed to buy or sell anything without contacting the Trustee for approval.
Is the vehicle in your name now.....?
Since your are working on your dad's house and he is paying you (car), did you list him as a income source on your petition??
If you have not attended your 341 meeting yet, you may be okay if you just explain to the Trustee that your car died and your dad bought you another one (of same value) and you are "working the value of it off" by helping your dad.
Be honest and upfront about it and you'll probably be okay.

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
