Definitely do NOT go to your 341 without a SS card. It takes about a week to get one from the SSA office and trustee's will continue you if you don't have it, at least in my district.

Many districts only require proof of social security number, NOT the actual card.

Call your clerk, they will answer this definitively.

I went to my 341 with a W-2 instead of a social security card, and I got discharged just fine!

I am sure a printout from the SSA will be fine. I don't think W2's are accepted all the time because people can print those out on their computers. I know in my district, w2's are not accepted as proof.

I have read several things from this district that said copies would not be accepted for ID's, social, etc. I wonder if what some of these districts really do not want is the computer print out W2's, but the ones your employer gives you are OK. No matter, I will have one kind of back up or another by the time of the 341!

"Proof of Social" is the standard in most districts, at least according to what I researched online. Proof being your SS Card, W2, Social Security Statement, even a paystub showing your whole SS number or a recent 1099. Actually, the funny part if that is the US law on the whole SS proof situation, districts as usual just do whatever they please it seems.

As I said, if I go in Monday at lunch at the very least I will have the receipt and printout from the SS Administration. I will in all likelhood get the card before then (10/13), too and I DO have my W2.

In truth, I think it works just fine in this district too and the papralegal told me right. The people at that office typing those letters, well who knows... I am calling Monday to double check some stuff anyway.

I located my birth certificate, and I am heading in with my ID and birth cert Monday lunchtime to the SS Office. The 341 is two weeks from Tuesday, so odds are I will have the card itself by that time. If not, I have the receipt AND the W2. I think a trustee who said NO to both of those would be having a bad day indeed!

I also just called Wells Fargo to iron out details of getting my final bank statement. The phone bank person gave me an awful run around. I called the bank and found out there was NO problem going into a branch and getting a statement copy after the statement comes out on the 5th and in time for the 341. Also, I can get a note from them saying when the account was closed and the balance withdrawn.

There are few qualifications for working the phone line for a bank except a good credit rating, no criminal, and fast typing speed apparently. I know, I worked at one years ago and half the staff had no clue about the info they were giving customers. Eeek!

Sounds good. Once you have something from the SSA, you will not have any issues.

Wow, that explains a lot about some of these call centers. Also another reason why I switched to PNC. They are the only bank who actually called me and discussed my account options when I opened my account via the net. They also sent me a range of forums to sign, which no other bank bothered doing. If anyone has a PNC in their area, I highly recommend using them.

I had misplaced my SSN card and I went a couple of weeks ago to get a replacement. Took about a week to get the new card.

If it is as fast as one week, great the 341 is in a week and I day. I could also get a receipt/printout from them at that same time that in combo with the W2 I am think there is a 99.5 the trustee would have no problem with.

My point, however is that why was a W2 all good and well for the 341 when I spoke with the paralegal and now when I get the letter it is something " a few trustees accept". Big difference, BIG. They should not be telling me two different things.

I wouldn't waste your time worrying about that. Questions like these are why this forum is so great, as it allows us to compare information.

Leena, not to state the obvious but a quick trip to the local SSA and you could have been issued with a new Social security card in a week.

Yesterday, I get the instructions in the mail from my attorney re the 341. Nothing to surprising, nothing terrible but... Frustrating!

I was told by the paralegal that my W2 would be just fine for proof of SSN. I have my 2008 W2 from my current employer. I have not had my SS Card in decades, I kid you not. My 341 is in two weeks, three days and I see this is the letter:

"a W2 or paycheck check showing the full SSN is accepted by a few trustees"..

Well, there is a BIG difference between that and the paralegal telling me the W2 would be just fine. I am now thinking I at least need to get down to the SS Office and apply for the card and get the printout and receipt from the SS Office in case the trustee balks at the W2. I do not, not, not want a rescheduled 341 meeting!!! It is a $242.00 charge for a rescheduled meeting or a meeting continued because you do not have docs, according the my attorneys office.

In more cheery news, it looked to me like they did not list a couple of creditors I told them about. They sent me a list of the creditors they had included with the letter. Though, when I looked at everything I think that may not be the case. Some of my debts have been bought and sold a couple of times or more, and some of them have confusing stuff like "First Corp for Arrow Financial for GXNM Financial" as names. I will have to check all this out, too.

I might further add that the attorney's office is kind of hellish. They make you beg to talk to even a paralegal let alone an attorney, and at least one of the girls who answers the phone is an incredibly snotty fill in the blank. Not sure if she looks down on us bankrupts or she just hates her job. Whichever it is, she needs to not work there. I pay her salary so far as I am concerned...

So Monday (probably lunchtime, not morning. Those people are just to much to deal with in the morning!) I will call and see what's up with these things. I would not be the least bit surprised if they try to nab me for their $45.00 add a creditor fee for crap they forgot to include, and with the 341 just over two weeks out and the BK filed, going with another lawyer is not an option.

I hope the petition is a competent one, and it is *just* that they are rude and annoying and may have created a hassle with this W2 deal. I think the petition is fine, they have something like 4 offices in this area and do this ALL the time. My case is not complex, either so even if they are a bunch of half wits chances are it's alright (being positive here!).

Still, I am just cranky. My BK is so relatively simple I could have propbably taken a week off, read up and done it myself (working in goverment housing programs has given me a strong apptitude for paperwork). I paid 16, closer to 17 hundred bucks for them to pull stuff like this...
