Hey gang,
I am close to discharge (hopefully, the letter should be coming any day now) and am very excited.
However, I do have a question. My Best Buy credit card, which I did not have to include in the bankruptcy because it had a 0 balance at time of filing, appears to still be active. I called up customer service and they verified that I can use it just as I did prior to filing for banruptcy, and that all store terms were still applicable to me.
So here's the deal- I just got a flier yesterday from Best Buy saying that all purchases $299 and up had no interest payments until 2008, but only through Wednesday of this week. I am thinking about getting a laptop- in fact, I was planning on setting aside cash and paying for it that way in March/April 2006. But... I'm thinking that using my Best Buy card for this offer may actually help in rebuilding my credit a bit, and I can afford the $40/month until I pay it off in full by March or April of next year. Plus, I can sneak in a couple Christmas gifts and not have to worry until 2008 to pay them off. We're not talking getting over my head here, but rather using my card responsibly and paying off significant amounts ($300+) per month.
So my question is this: given it was not included in the bankruptcy, do you think it would hurt me to use the BB card prior to discharge? I am not so much concerned about the terms of the card itself, but rather my chances for being successfully discharged from the BK.
I'm also in touch with my attorney on this but would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this.
