Is a laptop computer a legit purchase? A cheap one (less than $400), or would this raise an eyebrow by a trustee?

Even if you assume that it is a luxury item, the presumption of non-dischargeability doesn't arise until you get to $550.
And from a practical standpoint, it would not be at all cost effective for a credit card company or a trustee to bring an adversary proceeding to have the charge held to be non-dischargeable. So I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

Thanks for the replys,I wasn't going to charge it anyways.I am surrendering my home and my attorney said not to pay on it anymore. I know I can't have much cash at the time I file so I have to spend it somewhere and my desk top is about 6 years old and starting to freeze now and then.Also when I move I doubt i'll have as much space in my dwelling as I do now so a laptop would be down sizing.Comment
