u can open a checking account anytime you want to. if its after the petition filing then you dont need to list it. you can deposit as much as you want in there as long as the funds come from a source you listed on your petition in some fashion.

This wasn't as easy as I thought it might be. The first two banks I tried (one local and the other Charter One) turned me down because my credit rating was too low. Hey this is a savings account what risk are they taking? I opened an account with TCF, which I really didn't want to, but since they have my checking account I guess they will take more of my money. TCF didn't get it right though , I have to go back tomorrow, and I guess that's the only good thing about TCF, being open on Sunday. Peace -

the banks check credit reports? i know they check 'checksystems' and stuff.

but if you are just opening a saving account? must be something to do with a check card. anyone know?

waht else did you apply for when you tried to open an account? did you try a credit union?

Didn't try to apply at a credit union. Around here I think you either have to be invited to join one, or be in a trade that sponsers that credit union. I went with TCF as a last resort.

The National Credit Union Administration has adopted changes to credit union membership rules. Credit unions will now be able to draw customers from an entire profession in a geographic region, not just a single employer. Rules were also eased to allow credit unions to draw in members over broader geographical areas or from employees of a company who are spread over multiple locations. The American Bankers Association, which has fought the changes, said, "NCUA's actions reflect a disregard for congressionally imposed limits on credit unions. They also reflect the agency's continuing bias toward creating large, bank-like credit unions."

many CU allow you to join. they need you.

look at creditboards . com and there is a thread that will help you find banks maybe.

Thanks guys for the heads up. I don't think I'll move the money out of TCF but I wanted to open multiple savings accounts anyway. I found a credit union down the street from me and one of their qualifications is that they accept people from this particular zipcode. I guess I'll check them out.
