Paying off a credit card before filing Ch 7

    Hi everyone,

First of all, love this forum - it has really been helpful in my research especially since we're filing pro se. I think I'm a little paranoid about everything at this point since I'm getting close to finishing up the paperwork.

Here is a question and it might just be my paranoia but I thought I'd throw it in here and see...

I have one credit card that I was using to pay for groceries - all other credit cards were closed once I went into my debt management program. I would like to pay off this said credit card because I have a co-signer on it (my father) and I don't want him to shoulder the debt if I include this on my BK, I don't even want him to know -is that sad or what? Because I work for a family business, they've agreed to pay off this debt and dock what I normally would pay a month from my paycheck. This way, I don't have to deal with interest and the card can be paid of and closed BEFORE I file. It's $2900.

Will this be a problem when I get to my 341? Will they question where I got the funds and even if they question I am going to state where I got it.

Thanks all, I've been asking many questions. PARANOID!

First it's a waste of money, especially at that amount.
Second, if you can afford to pay off a $2,900 CC, what is the need for BK?
Third, if you pay off this card, and file within 90 days of doing so, the BK trustee will get the money back from the CC company anyway.
Fourth, the CC will likely close the account (about 90% certain) once they find out you filed BK regardless if you pay them off.
Fifth, after BK, you can pay back any creditor you want, so no need to waste money now to achieve a goal that the BK won't allow you to achieve in the first place.
