    Reducing Expenses before Discharge

    #2
No need to wait. Cut your expenses if you need to.
    Filed Chapter 13 on 2-28-10. 341 completed 4/14/10. Confirmed 5/14/10. Lien strip granted 2/2/11
0% payback to unsecured creditors, 56 payments down, 4 to go....

Shoot, I didn't wait for my discharge to start reducing expenses, I went over every expense we had looking for ways to reduce them. So for the means test we had expenses like clothing, medical co-pays, etc. It's not like we were actually able to spend money on those things for quite a while before so...

Anyway, your bankruptcy is a snapshot, not a rolling average until discharge. If you win big at casino or inherit a bunch of money you should be ok. If you think there is some reason the trustee will be challenging your expenses I'd probably wait for the report of no distribution before I made major changes, but other than that, save what you can.

Sounds good to me. The trustee aleady posted on PACER that I am a "no asset" case. I think that is what you mean by "report of no distribution". Thank you.

The turning point for you to do what you want with expenses is the day you file. Personally, I waited until the 341 until I started socking away money like crazy. What you do between filing and discharge matters about as much as what you do after discharge.
