What happens to bills from 1992????

    Hi, all,

I filed chapter 7...I still have time to add to my list of creditors...I am wondering if I should or can add the creditors from 1992? That is 14 years ago. They are all medical bills. What happens to bills that old? Should I add them to my creditors list?

    Thank you, everyone!

When in doubt - Add It!!!!!!
You want to start clean - I saw an ad for a company to collect unpaid bills from 1985 & up!!!!!!! It isn't going to cost more and will give you protection in case of the "unknown".
Add, Add, Add - List it all - It will make you feel better too.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

They are beyond statute of limitation, so can't sue you. Even so, adding all you owe to the BK now is a good idea.

About 1 week before I filed, I got a collection notice ($200 or so) from an old utility. No clue if I really owed it or not, but I new it was OLD because it had my first married name on it and that was history in '97. Probably a junk debt buyer. But, I included it, just to avoid any potential hassles of them messing with my credit report.
Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

Definitely add the bills if you still can so they get discharged OFFICIALLY in the BK.

          Read this thread:

          http://www.bankruptcyforum.com/showt...ghlight=zombie

The doctors, hospital, whoever's accounting service could sell your old debt to a collection agent for pennies, or less, on the dollar. The CA can come after you years later to pay the old bill.

Even tho, as Staci has said, the SOL is probably up, the BK will be an extra protection for you.

This "going after old debt" thing is a growing and evidently highly profitable business. Include those debts and get the legal document that proves to the world you are no longer responsible for those old medical bills. Maybe the CA will harass you to the point you sue them and win a HUGE settlement.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

We were told by our atty to add any and every bill that we had, even those we wanted to reaffirm (van was the only one we reaffirmed~mainly because of the chance to use it to start rebuilding credit at a decent interest rate). If you are still paying on them and you still owe them, I would say that yes you should be able to add them in. If you have already filed, then you can amend them in.

If you owe it, add it.

Of course, seek prof advice, but my this is my .02 worth of unprof advice!
