I'm in NY & will most likely be filing Chapter 7 soon. I own my 2004 Chevy Avalanche outright. I'm not sure if I will have enough exemptions to cover it. I very well might with NY being able to use the Federal unused homestead exemption now. The truck needs a few repairs, but all in all is a great vehicle, gas mileage is not good, but it's great in upstate NY Winter weather. It has 68,000 miles on it. I'm wondering if I should just try to exempt the truck & worry about a "new" vehicle when the need arises, or if I should trade the truck in for a different vehicle now, even though my credit is in the toilet. I'm not looking forward to another car payment, but I have to think ahead.
