I stayed home with my son and though we may have wound up broke due to that, I have never regretted one moment of that decision. But each person must come to that decision on his or her own. Sometimes it's the dad. 
Love ya Hub, but... I suspect there are a fair number of convicts whose moms did stay home. There were criminals before working moms became commonplace.
On a slightly different note-- you mention that you have three cars. That may be a little issue. Be prepared--- you may have to lose one of them. It depends on a lot of factors. If you move closer to work, maybe you won't need that vehicle.
Getting out from under the losing proposition that is your house may wind up being the smartest thing you ever did.
