I filed Pro Se Chapter 7 in the Middle District of Florida, Orlando on 1/13/2006 (yes, it was Friday the 13th). My case was discharged on 5/5/2006. My case was closed on 5/22/2006. This post is just for the record, perhaps it will help someone during a search on Pro Se in the future. Personally, it is not a happy time. I do not seek nor want any congratulations or happy dances, etc. To all those seeking relief from the Court, Chapter 7 via Pro Se, my best wishes and Good Luck. It can be accomplished. To this forum and its many intelligent posters, a wonderful resource during the entire process, Thanks!

I downloaded all the forms from the bankruptcy court website (middle district of fl) printed them out and hand wrote the information in. if I can be of any help let me know.Originally posted by catwhispererMay I ask if you used any online services to help you file? There are parts of the forms I am terribly confused about, otherwise I would have filed on my own weeks ago.

I will not do the happy dances for you, but a "job well done" is at least in order. It is so nice to see that a person who did it pro se accomplished their goal in the first step to becoming debt free and rebuilding their life. I filed pro se myself last month and just did my 341 this week. I have had some say to me that under the new laws it wouldn't be a good idea to file without an atty. In my situation I simply couldn't afford to pay an atty if I was constantly worrying about paying the necessities that most families have in life. I did months of research, printed out my forms and took out my old electric typewritter to do my forms. I hope that my case proceeds smoothly and with that needed discharge that I am looking for too. And yes I agree with you that BK is a hard time and there's not too much to be happy about - at least this has been my experience pre-bk and during bk. I only hope that post bk will get better.

It is not impossible to file pro se, and many are successful at it.......
Just a word of caution, though.....
When you file pro se, make sure you have fully researched your bankruptcy condition and what problems you might encounter with your individual process regarding all assets, etc that you have.
Try to be very informed and knowledge about the process and what to look for and what to expect.....
Failure to know the bankruptcy laws, process, etc have caused many pro se filers to be dismissed..... remember KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.....
KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING............ if unsure then at least have a paralegal look over your petition before you file it.... they are cheap and a good source.
Trustee's really look closely at pro se filers..... they look for missing information and any hidden assets, and ways to dismiss a pro se filers case....
Trustees have a tendency to be "very hard core" on pro se filers.... because they know they can!!!
My hats off to all those that have filed pro se and were discharged/closed on their cases........

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
