Charged off vs. past due amounts

i don't meet the means test anymore and a lot of my debt has been charged off but there is another amount showing on my credit report as past due.

Am I still responsible for the past due amounts?
Could they be settled for pennies on the dollar?

Just as a note. If it is charged off you still owe it and they will still try to collect on it.

Yeah. Just because the primary Creditor charged off a balance doesn't mean you're home free. Just means your Creditor has written your debt off their books. They're not gonna fool around with you anymore.

You need to check on your State's Statute of Limitations for Debts. A Secondary Collector will buy your debt for pennies on the dollar and the Secondary will come after you. If you give them one penny, you restart the SOL on that debt.

turnitaround, have you filed BK and it now shows as a charge off, or are you talking pre-bk? I still have some of my accounts showing CO even though I am in a Chapter 13 PP. Once the trustee starts making dispursements, I will see if that changes.

Since you in the Chapter 7 forum, once you get your discharge, you need to have the creditors show it as Included in BK.
