    Help with my next step

Hello to All: I have not posted for a couple months and was trying to find my last post but cannot locate. So will try to bring you all up to date assuming you cannot see my previous posts, although hopefully you can.

I have approximately $37,000.00 in CC dept. Up to date on mortgage and car payment. I had/have a gambling problem but have not been to the Casino since June 7 stop date. I have seen a consunselor but he really has not told me anything new.

Gambled for 30 years but got out of control 3 years ago. I then started transfering balances between cards ect.

I bought a new/used car middle of June when I still had a decent credit rating. I have not used or paid any CC since July, couple before that.

I am doing the waiting game now but now sure when to move forward with the BK. Summer months I make more money so trying to wait until the first of the year maybe. Just not sure if I will get sued or judgement against me.

I live in a pretty rural area and the BK attourney charges are about $800.00 or at least thats what they were in May when I spoke with him. A friend referred him, she used him for hers, which appeared more compicated then mine, so I assume he is good.

How long can I play the waiting game, getting 4-5 calls per day. I have not taken any.

Thanks for anyones help and suggestions. Sorry I could not find the spell check....

Hi Firewomen, here is a link to your previous thread.

Are you attending GA meetings regularly? This might come up as a question by the trustee, I've seen a couple posts about this. There is also a post somewhere from someone who was required to put him/herself on casino exclusion lists, even those out of state that they had been to. Don't know how that ended up, don't recall if that poster came back.

You should consult with more than one attorney. Even if you now believe the first attorney will be the right one for you, you have no way to compare without talking to a few more. Be sure and ask if he/she has much experience with gambling debtors, and if there is anything you should be aware of as far as how the local trustees handle this issue.

Many folks here have used Google Voice to handle the phone calls. I don't have experience with this, but there are a number of threads on it.

You could be OK in avoiding a lawsuit until Jan. or so. Some people go for years without one, I had one sue me less than a year from first missed payment, about 10 months, I think. If you do get served, you should have enough notice to file quickly which should stop a suit from proceeding.

I don't remember if you mentioned it before, but do you have equity in your home? What is it worth, and how much is owed? Did the first lawyer you spoke with say if you would have any problem with that?

Hi Firewomen: Welcome back! I broke your post into paragraphs to make it easier to read.

To find your older posts, click on your name and you will be taken to your profile. On the left-hand side of the screen underneath your username, you will see a list of options. One of these is 'Find latest posts'. You don't have that many posts, so you will see something like 'find forum posts'.

There is also an option of 'Find your started threads'. But the option of 'find forum posts' is what you want. Click on that and you will be given a list of your posts, with the latest one at the top.

Now, a most important question: Have you got the gambling problem under control? If you haven't yet, you won't be accomplishing anything by filing BK now.

Hey Thanks for responding so fast!! Sad story regarding GA meetings. So I was planning my QUIT date and started looking for meetings. After calling hotlines and GA's hotline and doing some investagating on my own I found out the closest GA meeting is two hours away, NO LIE. I spoke with my counsler and he did not have much more info, and could not find any other meetings. There might be a meeting 1 hour from where I live but have not confirmed this. I HAVE put myself on the so called "List", you can pick how long you want to stay away. I picked 6 months, went back in 4 and they welcomed my with open arms!! What a joke. In the mean time I went to the casino that was a little further away.
I am going through some pretty horrible family stuff right now stuff I did not think I would ever have to face and holding up. I have two people I know I can call if I feel like I am going over the edge. Also got a new puppy, she is 7 months old and will not leave her for too long. That helps alot, it is strange where the Lord has helped me thru this. Not super religous, but know someone/thing has difineatelly helped me along my journey!! I really hate mispelled words and am the worst speller please tell me where the spell check is on this site, thanks!

Try and calm down. It's close to the new year. If you got served today, very likely your court date wouldn't be until 2014 anyway.
Wouldn't let phone calls worry me very much since you're so close to a filing date. Besides, if they got a jusgment against you the underlying debt would be discharged and post bk you could get the judgment vacated.

Hi FW, for the Spell Checker, Mozilla Firefox has it. Internet Explorer does not. For that reason, I use Firefox.

With that said, when you are ready to post, go down to the bottom of the posting box. I mean well below the blue-grey frame and you will see three buttons: 'Post Quick Reply', 'Go Advanced' and 'Cancel'. Click on 'Go Advanced'. You will get a screen up that resembles a word processor. That should contain a Spell Checker.

BUT before you do the Spell Check, PLEASE do paragraphs!!!

Please to you, and others in this thread, BREAK your long posts into PARAGRAPHS, with at least a double space between lines (thoughts). If you want them read, you have to help us to read them by making it easier for us!

              Thank You! Rant over.

I think most people are safe at least 6 months until a lawsuit happenes. Some people go much longer.

Most people on here say not to talk to the credit card companies when they call. I disagree. I think one should talk to them every so often so they know you are not ducking them but instead simply cannot pay right now. Got to be very careful with what you say to them because they will pump you for information that you should not be giving.
