Starting to receive credit card offers

    Hi Everyone:

I don't expect to be finally discharged from my Ch 7 until 7/24 (last day for objections). I received an offer from Premier bank. I believe that the way they give credit sucks because of all the fees. If you end up with only a $250 credit line- most is taken up with fees until you pay it down. Any way they are offering me a APR of 9.9% which sounds good compared to what my CC's were pre-BK. They say I have until 7/10 to apply. So my question is - do I have to wait until my discharge to apply? After all, I believe that you are not allowed to get more in debt, but I don't think that this means applying for credit. Has anyone had experience with Premier? My SO at one time had this card and the only thing he had as a credit line was $250 because his credit sucked. There was a time when my credit was decent and I didn't get any offers from Premier. I guess they "sniffed" me out for having less than perfect credit as described in the invitation/application. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't apply since I wouldn't want to do anything that could potentially jeopardize the Ch 7.

Yeah. Don't do it. Why get bent over and raped, willingly? Wait and get a household, orchard, or capital one. Don't waste your time with premiere, aspire, and all these other ripoffs.

        Hi FOMO

Are you cards secured or unsecured? I noticed that you were discharged on 2/28/06, but you list some of your CC's for January, Feb and March. Did you obtain these cards before the BK was discharged? Did you keep any prior cards (pre-bk) during or after the discharge? Yes I do agree that the fees are a rip off, but I guess sometimes this is the price that people pay to establish credit which is what I'd like to do ASAP. I just don't know if it will be right for me.

        Thanks,

        sbb

I am not scheduled to get discharged until after 8/6/06. Orchard sent me an application for an approval of $300.00. Do you think that I should wait till I am discharged to apply for it as well. I don't mean to rain in your parade so-beyond, but I want to know too!

Not to rain on your parade, but I'll say it again:

I wouldn't apply since I wouldn't want to do anything that could potentially jeopardize the Ch 7.

In Ch 13, you cannot have credit cards or obtain an additional debt with a trustees approval.

Just say no--you'll get other offers. Take things one step at a time and get your discharge first.

My cards are unsecured. I got 2 before I was discharged, but it is not recommended. I don't have any credit lines that carried over from pre-bk. You can establish your credit asap, without paying all those fees. Don't pay anything over a $59 annual fee, or any other fees. In a year or so you shouldn't take anything with any fees or an annual fee.

I was dc in nov 2005 and I have 2 cc one with orchard and one with capitalone, they were opened feb and mar 2006, I get offers every day from first premier, washington mutual, aspire, etc. I refused to pay any of those fees and suggest waiting for better offers, they will come!

I was dc in March '06. Following the advice of others here, I resisted the strong urges to take those trash offers from FP/Aspire, etc. Glad I did. I have spent the several months post bk learning to budget and live on my income - it's a struggle - but I have managed to open a CJ account and get approved for a car loan. That's enough for a few months...so I plan to pay those for 3 months minimum before applying for or replying to any cc offers.

                    sbb,
rebuilding credit is going to be a long uphill effort and I'd suggest tossing the offers that include really high fees in the trash.

Technically, you're not supposed to get any new Credit until after you're discharged.

Others here have done it. Taken CC's before Discharge to jump start rebuilding Credit. They got lucky and did not get caught. It can be done.

Why risk your BK and your fresh start when waiting a while longer won't hurt one bit??

Especially, as DJK mentioned, with high fees and such.

Just a note to add to this***Once you decide to obtain a credit card you can call the originator and negotiate the annual fee. Most will waive the fee.
Take your time and don't take the first offers. You'll receive many I'm sure!

I was discharged in August 05 and kept my Premier card during the bk. I am just cancelling the card as I have received Capital One, Orchard and Household over the past few months. I also have a corporate AMEX backed up by my company. Other crappy offers have recently come but I am waiting for the better card offers.

I think I have enough credit for now.

Just wait until you are discharged. The application with the date is a bunch of crap. They will still take your money after that date.

I started with a Frist Premier, if you're in a hurry to rebuild it's the way to go.
