    Aiu

Last week I received a letter from AIU (an online University) stateing that they have turned my account over to CA. Still have not heard from the CA and had not heard from AIU since Sept.

Can I include AIU on my Ch7 petition?

They say I owe them $6000. The $6000 was not covered by any student loans. So isn't it considered a bill, just like any other?

That's correct..................just list the debt in your petition.

    Good Luck!

Todd--Thank you. I posted this on another board and someone told me that because of sec 523 (8) (a) the debt would not be dischargable. My lawyer is amending my petition to include it.

No problem.........I wonder why your attorney didn't know this.

No problem..........the 523 xx articulates the law pertaining to educational loans - gov and private.

"The point of my original post is that a bill for tuition is NOT just like any other bill; it is like a student loan. Universities and colleges, including commercial and online colleges, know this and will often pursue you after bankruptcy. Good luck." This was my response from other board. For some reason this guy seems to equate tution with school loans. Again thanks for putting mind at ease.

A curiosity question and if this is too nosy, by all means say so- Did you drop out and they billed you for the entire tuition anyway, or what happened?

Dawn: Yes I attended for only 10 weeks. About 8 weeks into my course they informed that I would have to come with another $4000 in order continue (that was for the whole program), so I dropped out after my second class. Basically they charged me over $7000 (received a student loan for 1400) for 10 weeks of class. $700 a week--can say gaugeing.

How did they attempt to justify demanding an additional $4,000? Did they try to claim that a student loan or Pell Grant fell through or something? Or are you saying that you dropped out and then they still demanded the tuition that would have covered the rest of the program? Sorry again for being nosy.

They said I did not have enough Financial Aid to cover. But when I started they said I was enough. When I started I was attending two universities for about 3 weeks, both online. One AIU and other Cappella (also online). I had declined my next terms aid for Cappella (they want you to attend seminars and did get enough in funding to attend them).

Oh, I see. I know you will be glad to get this debt discharged! Good luck with your whole process.
