Thanks to all that provided accurate information as well as your personal experiences in bankruptcy. You'll never know the feeling of being on the edge and anxiety as much as when you're filing for bankruptcy.
I filed 10/14/05 Pro Se. I paid $35 for filing software to help organize and fill out the forms in a neat fashion. I ended up being the only one that came prepared with my matrix on disk and that didn't go unnoticed by the clerk and trustee. I was commended on having the forms filled out thoroughly and accurately. I had a few expenses that I knew were a bit high, but I was 100% honest.
I wasn't too anxious about the 341 meeting because I kept reading on here that it wasn't such a big deal, especially for a non asset case as myself. Of course I was still a wee bit nervous but overprepared as advised here. Armed with extensive bankstatements and other documentation I went to my meeting only to have the trustee not request any of the documents I painstakingly made sure to bring.
I thought I had a pretty straightforward case, but my trustee wanted everyone to sign a motion to extend until he recieved our tax returns. Fair enough, but that meant waiting and waiting unsure of the outcome of the case. I sent in my tax return in April and about a month later it was returned to me along with a letter that said I can keep the entire amount because it was too small to distribute.
so I waited. and waited. and waited. I was certain the delay meant the trustee was building his case to dismiss me. My curiosity took over and I called his office to find out what the hold up was. His assistant answered and was really friendly and said she'd check my file (I didn't demand to know what the hell was going on, I politely asked if there was anything I should be doing to following up now that they returned my check). She told me that it was good to go and that there was nothing more to be done on my part. She said she'd be adding mine to the ones already waiting, about 100 before me so it would be about a month.
I saw on Pacer that I was discharged on 07/03/06 and the case closed on 07/06/06 (exactly one month after I spoke with the Trustee's office)! Whoa. it feels amazing and slightly unbelievable that it's over and I can now rebuild. I can stop worrying that I did something wrong in my filing or forgot something. I still regret that my choices and other factors brought me down the bankruptcy path, but I'm so glad that I did it (and without an expensive attorney). Thanks entirely to this forum. thank you thank you thank you.
