    Forgotten/Missed Auto & Home Maintenance Expenses

    I'm trying to remember all of those once or twice a year things to put into my expenditures for automobile and home maintenance expenses.

    Automobile
    =======
    Oil Changes (4-6 times a year)
    Spark Plugs
    Antifreeze
    Injector cleaner
    Air filter
    Deductible for windshield (mine is cracked and pitted)
    New tires (at least I need them)
    Car wash/polish
    Windshield wipers
    ++ Brakes
    ++ Vehicle inspection & tags

    Home
    ====
    A/C - Heating filter for central air / furnace
    Rug cleaning
    Plastic covering for windows in winter
    Lightbulbs (indoor and outdoor)
    Storage bins
    Refresh bark around trees and porch
    Batteries for smoke detectors
    Outdoor window washing stuff (can't remember the name)
    Weed killer

    Can you refresh my memory on things that you might just do a couple times of year?

    It's not an annual expense, but how are your brakes on your car? If they're getting worn, I'd put something in the budget for that.

      If it was like my case, all they would give me was the "IRS standard for autombile ownership"....repairs had to come out of that. The price of gas these days eats up the IRS ownership expenses.

      Home repairs, you should try about 75-100/month. I think mine started at 100/month, got wittled down to 75.00.

        I get the easy walk through the means test since I'm below the median.

        I sort of have to lists for schedule J. The generic one that gets filed, and then I want to have a detailed one ready with all the individual expenses in case I'm asked how I arrived at that value.

        Gas is eating me alive--but I can also explain that I have a long commute.

          You need to change the oil more than once or twice a year. If you have along commute, every 3000 miles would be prudent. What about vechicle inspection stickers and tag renewal fees?

            I know, I do oil changes every 3750 miles.

              might need to replace the rotar and distributor cap if it hasnt been done. Also the following should be checked etc:

              O2 Sensor (should be checked)
              Plug Wires
              Fuel Filter
              Rotors (checked and resurfaced if needed)
              headlamp bulbs
              taillight bulbs
              friggin more light bulbs

              Give me a minute, Im sure I can come up with tons more

                I'm spoiled--dad takes my car and says "let's check it out", he does what I need, and then just says "you owe me $45". So I don't have good records on that kind of stuff.
