    best state?

i was just wondering if someone could tell me the state that is the most debtor friendly, and the worst state for debtors. as far as limiting garnishments or freezing bank accts, some states have much lower sol laws than others, i know in Florida they cant force a sale of your home but they can lien it. they also only allow 1500 exemption for a vehichle. from what i have seen here it appears the southern states are more debtor friendly than northern states is that the case?

My attorney told me that VT, which is where I am, is a very debtor friendly state. They really want to see us succeed and get back on our feet.

Wisconsin is the best state for Beer, Bratwurst, and Cheese.

            Sorry, it's Friday afternoon.

Texas is by far the most generous State for debtors filing bankruptcy....We did not lose the Alamo & Davy Crockett and become our Own Republic (with our own Navy) until 1845 just to allow the Yankee financiers to shake us down when times are rough! no wonder that the last battle of the Civil War was fought here!

Can someone clarify this for me? I live in FL. I make car payments and still have a balance of $7400 on a 1998 Ford. I really hope they don't try to take away the car when I file...

FL car exemption is $1,000 of equity. Plus if you don't own a house , you can also claim up to $4,000 as a wild card exemption.

But sounds like you owe an awful lot of money for a 1998 car, unless its an Expedition or something - that may not be worth what you owe. Check www.edmunds.com and
www.kbb.com for values. You may want to think about letting it go in the BK and stop paying those payments.

It's a 98 Ford Mustang Cobra. Pretty much the top of the line Mustang for that year. I'm a Mustang enthusiast and I'd hate to see my car go. I wouldn't mind making payments on it (reaffirm?) after a BK.

You can reaffirm your car loan, if you can make the payments.
