    BK during divorce

STBX has decided to file for Chapter 7 while our divorce is in process. Understand from reading countless websites that under community property laws (in CA) I can be held liable for "her" debts. We maintained separate accts in our own names, but that apparently doesn't matter. Spoke with a bankruptcy attorney and was told that I could a) file myself, b) pay them or c) wait to see if the creditors sue me. Final option would be to file a Motion for Relief, work on a MSA w/ a hold harmless provision and then sue her if they come after me -- sounds like a lot of money and work and not sure suing her would really accomplish much. Below is a list of the creditors/balances. Any thougthts on which would come after me? Not sure what to do at this point. Thank you.

    Bloomingdales $650
    Cingular $600
    Citicards $18,000
    Gap $1000
    Macys $6500
    Nordstrom $4800
    WFNB/Ann Taylor $2000
    WFNB/JCrew $1500

For $18K, Citi will likely sue sooner rather than later.
My suggestion is, stop using those cards and get yourself in repayment mode.
With the exception of Citi, you don't owe much money.
Prehaps, pay off the 2 small accounts and then, apply the regular payments you were sending to them to the payments to Citi and see if you can get that one under control.
