Yep, I owe some credit card debt, no doubt. But, instead of trying to work with me between getting laid off and finding another job, (and I tried talking with them.....they wouldnt even consider it) they jacked my interest rates way up, put me over the limit and then added over the limit fees. So I just said screw it, why try. I know, thats the consequence of not making a payment on time. Well, no job = no money = no payment. You know how it is. So they write it off and sell it for pennies on the dollar to these debt buyers. Now I never borrowed any money from these CA's, so I feel like I don't owe them anything...and if I do, then maybe I could work something out that would be 5 to 10% over what they purchased the debt for. But we all know thats not going to happen. They get a HUGE return on investment as long as they win and the debtor doesn't file BK. These CA's sometimes sell the debt to a collection attorney, whose already sitting on a FAT bank account and he's trying to collect as much money as possible from someone who is probably still broke (and in my case, laid off again due to job getting sent to Mexico) and thats what I'm fighting. The rich suing and trying to take from the poor and I dont know if I will be victorious or not. I'm lucky that my home doesn't have enough value to go over the exemption rate (its about half way there), but other than that, I'm unemployed and broke. I'm starting to sell some things now just to get up the money to pay for my bk which I will probably have to file, plus pay next month's mortgage. But if I can fight these suits and win, then I dont mind trying. If I lose, I'll go the bk route.
