Credit Agencies- after you stop paying Credit Cards

I actually sign my papers next week to file after I review my matrix. However, I just received my first collection letter from a debt sold from CITIBANK.

    Now,
Can anyone tell me the best method to stop further collections after we file?

For example, I am assuming shortly before or even after we file our debt will be sold to collection agencies. What is the best method to deal with these people after I have filed and/or been discharged. I am trying to get a plan together to deal with collections from here on out.

Example... Do I first send a debt validation letter ( hence when they contact CITIBANK or any other credit card company the CC will say the debt was discharged in bankruptcy)

Then do I follow up in a week or so with a Cease and Desist letter? Any thoughts or experiences?

Since I would like to buy a new home in the next couple of years I don't want a bunch of collection accounts on my credit report.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,

If you filed already and have a case # - and the collection agency calls you - just tell them that you filed, give them the case #, your attorney's name, and tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine.

Make sure your attorney adds the new CA to your matrix. You should be fine, once you file, they will need to go away.

      Don't worry about it.

        Yeah,
I already did that today. However, I pick up the papers to review in a week before signing.

I guess I am wondering how I am affected after these our credit cards or other accounts are sold to these agencies even though they are not listed on my matrix..

So, I listed the original creditor on my matrix.. However, since I have a lag time from not paying to filing some of the credit card companies will be sending them to CA while I am in the process of filing.. So, in essence the debt could have been sold while I was filing and I have not been notified and it's not on my matrix because I have not been notified.

Example, my pre-bankruptcy planning started in July by not paying on credit cards and paying my attorney.. I am sure the CC are now starting to get the idea that we will no longer pay...This is after we told them by phone we were filing and provided our BK attorney phone #

As long as you list the original creditor you should be ok. If you find out later that there are other CAs involved, it is really easy for your attorney to add them to the matrix if necessary. I wouldn't worry about it, you have the original debt listed, you should have no problems.
