HELP - Life Insurance and Garnished Funds exemptions

The trustee said my life insurance cash value cannot be claimed as exempt in VA Code 38.2-3122 and that it should be covered by 34-4 or wildcard exemption. Likewise I cannot exempt the garnished money from my savings accounts as wages even if they really are wages. He said the provision for wages is different. I need to get another homestead deed quickly. Must I specify the exact amounts to exempt in the homestead deed? For example, $1,500.25 for life insurance and $523.45 for savings acct. Also, are the garnished funds in the category savings account when my savings acct really was zero at that time because money was not there? Thank you.
