    Voting guidelines?

Someone please help. Not that I think it should matter but I am in Ohio. We just got a notice of lift of stay dated 9/18. We are moving into our new residence on 10/15. So how does this effect our being able to vote. I read online (you know how that goes) that if your house was in foreclosure they were trying to say you couldn't vote because it is not your residence anymore. Well, in my case, I am moving just a few blocks but I will be receiving mail there. So will I not be able to vote? I am 31 years old and am planning on voting for the first time (should have all along). I am very disappointed about the fact I may not get to now.

They can't take away your voting rights!

Hey, Truckerswife - so glad you brought this up! You're absolutely going to be able to vote, as long as you register your change of address with your election board before the deadline. They cannot take away your right to vote, but you have to initiate this - and the deadline is usually a month before the election, so do it NOW! Here are the locations of your County Boards of Election:

Please, call today! I'm sure they'll be swamped after the NYT article yesterday.

This is getting a lot of press because registered voters in foreclosure are likely to have so much else on their minds (you think?) that they just forget to change their addresses, assuming they're already registered, so they're okay. Same thing happened after Hurricane Katrina.

This was in the New York Times just yesterday:

So it's on the radar in Ohio for sure, which is at least something.

I'm really glad you brought this up, Truckerswife - I'm going to start a new thread about it in the general forum.
