Does anyone out their know of a place online to check if a NOD has been filed for Virginia??

It would be filed with your county's recorders office. Some are online, some are not. If yours isn't you can call and ask about a NOD.
What county in VA are you in? Once your case is filed in the courts you'll be able to find it here:

I tried searching for the recorder's office online for your county and don't see anything. However I did come across this phone number. You might try calling them and asking if they have the Notice of Default information online somewhere.

You might also look and see if your house is listed on www.realtytrac.com - technically once a NOD is filed they can show your house as in preforeclosure (then they change it to foreclosure when the court case is filed). It really isn't that up to date though. I think they run a couple of months behind.Comment
