We 'opted out' of junk mail, but still receive all the junky letters!

Yesterdays letter was annoying as ever as it arrived in a long white envelope and in the top left corner it said it included 2006 tax info.... we opened it up to find some junky car financing company offering to do our taxes for free and get us a new car! FALSE ADVERTISING to say the least!

We opted out, but maybe we didn't do it right? Are we missing any websites or #'s to call so this junk mail can stop!? We were told by a lender that this junk mail can bring our credit scores down. Is this true?

We on average receive 1-2 pieces of junk mail a day since we filed. It's really getting annoying. What if our mail ends up in the neighbors box. That would be great.

No, that is not true. These are soft inquiries that are generated as part of a list that a subscriber to a CRA would purchase. For example, if I were a sub prime lender I would ask a CRA for a list of people with FICO scores between 580-620 who have a mortgage in 12345 zip code, and the CRA would generate a mailing list. These types of inquires are not factored into any type of credit scoring.

We're getting the junk offers all the time too. We're also monitoring our Credit working on cleaning up our Credit Reports. None of the junk offers has pulled our Credit in connection with these so called "pre approved" offers we've been getting. And since the BK hit in September, our scores have only gone up.
