    Anyone with experience with AMEX?

We got an AMEX that we HAVE to pay off every month. We've had it for 18 months now and have never ever been late. I paid my December & January bill, saw and retained an attorney in February. Paid the February bill (our attorney said it was up to us whether to pay it or not). He said he's seen AMEX not close accounts in good standing and he's seen them close accounts in good standing. We're HOPING the keeping that account current will allow them to see we're trying. On the other hand, I realize it might be viewed as preferential payment. Just curious if anyone has any similar stories.

AMEX is one of the companies that "tends" to close account upon a person filing BK regardless of the status of the account. Thus, this is one card you should plan on NOT being able to have after BK.

AMEX is notoriously not BK friendly. Maybe your attny was talking in general terms. Some CC's won't close your acct with them if you owe nothing and are in good standing.

We had one Store card that's backed by Citi remain open. We filed against Citi for a sizable amount. The store left our acct open but reduced the credit limit.

Another Store acct, also with a zero balance in good standing, was closed by the Creditor. GEMB is known to be BK friendly. They are the Creditor backing that particular Store acct and they closed our LOC.

Also, since BK, I applied for a PayPal CC. It's backed by GEMB. I was denied. The letter I got explaining the denial cited BK as the reason.

Go figure. One store, we BK'd against Citi for big bucks. Still have that acct. Other store, we did not BK against GEMB for a penny and they won't extend credit.

Personally, the mindset I'd take is,........ Anticipate the AMEX will be closed due to BK and be pleasantly surprised if it isn't.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

Thanx everyone! I'm sorry to hear about the PP Card. We take Paypal exclusively online for our business payments and we do owe them money on their Paypal Buyer Credit line, which we told them we want to keep and pay on, I hope they let us.

As for the attorney, no he specifically was talking about AMEX, but he said they're pretty fickle. He said it's a roll of the dice and did advise against paying the bill. It was only $315, so I paid it anyway. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

i wouldnt count on american express keeping your account open. They are actually the people that pushed me over the edge into filing. I too had an account never late.....but they started stopping charges ....etc. etc.

          Good luck with them
