    Paying some debts before filing....

I have to wait to file for residency reasons. Will be Dec 07-Jan 08 when I file. I have 2 debts totalling 8k that I can't dc as well as one that I can dc but they are being a pain (bank attachments) and I am considering paying a settlement to get them to take a hike. Would be completed around 90 days before filing. Would it be a problem to pay these while I am waiting for residency to be established?

Why throw good money after bad. If it is a dischargeable debt and you are going to file, use the money for something else.

the taxes *2005* and one other debt are not dc able so I will have to pay them anyways, is it a problem to pay them off 3-6 mths b4 filing? The other is just to get the combined KGB and Secret Service, I mean Capital One out of my life.

Taxes and possibly the other debt, no one is gonna question. Taxes is a Priority Debt that has to be paid regardless.

CapOne on the other hand could open a Pandora's Box for you with other Creditors. The 90 day window is for the Trustee/Court. If other Creditors learn you're paying one and not them, you could stir up a pot full of trouble for yourself. Don't pay the CapOne.
