Regardless of what the trustee allows, it is expensive to buy groceries for one weeks worth of meals.

Lightning, my first inclination was correct. You are condescending, what with your comment about weight. How about you go away.

POOR LIGHTENING!!! He's had an attitude since day one!!
He puts his mouth in gear before his mind works, DUH!!

I always wanted to meet a "perfect man", lol, Lightening you available???

And by the way "I've packed many a lunch in 40 years of working".......plus I've seen the time I couldn't buy a cup of coffee too!!!!!!!!!! BUT I HAVE SURVIVED ...........without the help of a "perfect man"!!!!
Don't misunderstand me - I love my man, but he isn't a necessity in life, lol.... As long as he is good to me, I'm good to him!

Lightening are you a "bottle baby"??

Now that you have had your "butt chewin" for the day, , you don't have to worry about eating, huh, or gaining weight! Think of the money you will save!

      To gpcinvegas:

Nobody is grumpy and nobody is really mean....just outspoken.
Yeah I thought the comment about the "weight thing" SUCKS TOO!

What do you guys eat that costs so much?

I made the comment about weight because if you're spending a fortune on food you're either eating way too much or you're only eating the most expensive low fat, low cal foods available. Even then, I don't know how a single person spends $400 a month on food.

What's in your packed lunch that costs that much?

          Lightening,
That $400.00 a month grocery bill also includes, shampoo, cleaning supplies, soap powder (duh - a box of Tide is about $8.00), (24 roll of toilet tissue is $6.00 - and that sure doesn't last a month, lol). toothpast, mouthwash, etc. Actually $60.00 of it might be edible food each week. Meat is expensive, fish is too! And it cost at least $15.00 for all the ingredients to go in a salad (if your lucky enough to get by that cheap).
Lightening, an apple a day in your lunch would cost you almost $25.00 a month.

How do I know this - I buy groceries and I also worked in a grocery store for 4 years.

So its very easy to spend $100.00 a week when your buying all kinds of things besides food too. And all these items are considered part of your grocery bill.

And sometimes it is cheaper for a single person to eat out then it is for them to buy groceries. A package of lunchmeat or milk will go bad (lost money). Bread will ruin before it is all used up.

When I "pack my lunch" its usually "leftovers"....I cook meals, I'm not a junk food addict.

A lot of people "waste their money" buying groceries....they don't eat leftovers, thus throwing money away. Their better off if they "do" eat out. Some of them actually "save money" by eating out.

If you're including toiletries and household items in a grocery category, then, yes, the amount would be higher. If you're looking to establish a budget and control your spending, you need to be a bit more specific than having one category for everything purchased at a specific store. Cigarettes and liquor can also be purchased at a grocery store and a smoker and a drinker could easily say they spend a ton of money a month on "groceries".

And in case anyone is curious, even with all of the above (excluding cigarettes), I still only spend $400 a month. If you're interested in any tips on saving a bunch of money, let me know. Lest you think I live like a scrooge, my shampoo is $14 a bottle.

              Food Budget

$200 a month for Food is not bad.

I get paid every two weeks and I allocated $100 from my budget for food. I also buy my personal hygiene items out of this, along with toilet paper, etc. etc.

I started this budget in December 2004 and it has worked fine since.

I am a single person and I rarely eat out. I eat breakfast at home and bring lunch to work every day.

No, I am not starving to death, I am actually over weight.

Don't judge another person's budget until you have walked a mile in their shoes.
Finally debt free. Chapter 7 is wonderful. A fresh new start.

Well, years ago everybody grew up on beans, taters, and cornbread. Eat eggs from their own chickens, then had fried chicken for supper. Raised their own gardens, hogs, and cattle.
Guess their monthly grocery bill was about$25.00 to $50.00 at the most per month.........
SOCIETY HAS SURELY CHANGED........now we are dependent on the grocery stores..............
I still have my garden, can vegetables and fruits, share the cost of a hog and cow each year for meat.
Haven't figured out how to "make" toilet paper yet though!!!!lol

Robivi3 - DO THEY STILL MAKE SEARS AND ROEBUCK CATALOGS??

Oh well, times change, don't they.

                Thought for the day..................
If we had a disaster would you be able to eat or have water to drink??? Think about it!!!
