Is a credit balance considered to be an asset?

I'm down to a month or two before I file and there's some details I haven't figured out by all of the reading I've done.

I'm wondering how a credit (positive) balance gets handled.

The biggie is tuition for the kids' school. I paid the entire years worth of tuition up front instead of the normal deal where I pay a feee to a third party to perform an ACH debit of my account every month. How can I figure out if the unused portion is an asset or not?

The next biggie is my car payment with the Credit union. I applied for and was granted a payment holiday which means that they push my next payment due date ahead by a full month. I've been making payments every month but on paper it appears as if I'm making my payments a full month early. If my payment due date is way ahead when I file, is this an asset?

The last one is the Electric Company because I'm on a fixed payment plan. My bill is the same every month and I carry a credit balance some of the year and break even at the end of the year. Right now I have a credit balance -- is this an asset?

I'll ask my attorney too, but I appreciate all of the thoughtful answers I get here.
Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

I think you will be ok for all 3.

The utility bill is fine, lots of people do this, and your "asset" will be gone once the heat comes on this fall.

The car is ok - auto payment.

The school payment - just don't say anything about it. All you should be asked is "what is this payment for", and you can say "for tuition". Paying the whole year up front is not an asset, besides, what would they take?
