Welcome to the Bankruptcy Forum. Bankruptcy (BK) Forum is known as and will be referred to as BKF hereinafter. In order to ensure a long term success of our vibrant community, we have established certain rules and guidelines to which everyone must adhere to. Please take your time to carefully read our rules, before you start to participate in the community.

Things you agree to do: (BKF) users agree to use the search function before starting a new thread. This prevents duplicate discussions and allows for better organized topics.

All BKF users agree to read the sticky posts which may be available at the top of a forum page. These Sticky posts often contain valuable information. They may also outline more rules and guidelines specific for that particular forum, stickies are put in place by that forums moderator(s) or admin(s).

Regarding actions of moderators and administrators:

The forum is no place to air out your opinion or be judgmental of our staff and its capabilities.

All BKF users agree not to abuse or mistreat moderators or administrators. It is against BKF rules to post any information regarding bans or any other action taken by a member of the moderating or administrative team. If you wish to discuss bans or warnings please do so via PM. To place a complaint against a moderator, send a PM to a super moderator. All Moderators are equal, any decision made by a moderator must be adhered to. If a moderator tells you something you do not like, do not go to another moderator looking for a different answer. If you are caught doing this you will be banned. The moderators work as a team and respect the decisions made by their peers and will help enforce them unless an administrator tells them differently.
If you have an issue with how the forum is run, then notify one of our administrator and we will look into the situation. We have in the past and still do appreciate any input that you offer this forum. But critical input and/or judgmental postings towards the staff will result in you getting banned.

Should you find a thread offensive or out of line, then notify a Mod in a PM so they can evaluate the situation and do the action deemed necessary.

All moderators do have active "other" lives outside of the forum and help moderate this forum in their spare time throughout the days and weeks.

If you have a problem with a member or Mod follow the proper channels of reporting it.

BKF reserves the right to delete any posts which contain anti-BKF comments or discussion. Any bashing of moderators or administrators, or any of their discussion or actions will also be deleted, and the responsible posting party(s) will be banned. Any public anti-BKF advertising, communication, or posts on another forum will result in permanent bans as well.

All warnings and bans are decided by individual moderators and administrators. Warnings are preferable to bans however, for serious offenses and repeat abusers bans will go into effect. The length of the bans can vary from several hours to permanent.

    • After spending 20 years in the Army and moving from base to base with family in tow I racked up a significant amount of debt. Plus I was living like today is my last day after being deployed on multiple combat deployments. When I retired from the Army, my injuries from my service prevented me from being fully employed as a Freight Conductor in Nashville. Got laid off 5 times and could never regain my financial footing after robbing Peter to pay Paul. The bank would not re-negotiate my VA Home Loan and after writing a letter to my Congresswoman and Senator the foreclosure still proceeded.

Filed my first Chapter 13 with a previous law firm and the lawyer was incompetent as was his paralegal team. I filed in August 2008 and paid my proposed monthly amounts as outlined by the trustee only to discover that my case had been dismissed 4 times due to clerical errors. I never received notice from the court or lawyer about these dismissals. It was not until my car was repossessed did I learn what had transpired. I filed a complaint against my attorney with the Trustee and was told that they could not do anything about it. Spoke to the attorney and said he was fired. So after paying into the plan for 2 1/2 years I voluntarily dismissed my case because I could not afford payment into the plan and I had lost my mind (Lost my temper and ended up in the hospital for a month).

Eventually I received an increase in my VA Disability rating to 100 % and used the back pay to pay off the remaining unsecured debts but quickly discovered that the amounts went back up to the original claim amounts so the wild ride began again.....

VA, SSDI and CRSC pay count as disposable income after completing the means test and has been used to repay ALL of my creditors 100% of what I owed. I am now at the end of the road and will receive a discharge in March 2017, just plugging along and glad that this part of my mess is done and will NEVER go down this path again!

      • I am actually thinking to file for BK and one of my reason is credit card bills. Who among here have filed without attorney's help?

        • Filing Chapter 13 after not being more aware of the toll an 18 month medical recovery would take on my finances and business. 341 meeting is scheduled for July 5th and I am actually feeling extremely relieved regarding the whole matter.

          • I was doing okay, then the ex (father of my kids) decided to file for Disability and stop paying Child Support. So I went from receiving an expected $750/mth for the kids to nothing. Then, when he got approved for the SSDI, there wasn't much left for the kids. They get $100/each per month for dependent benefits! And getting that knocked out my Food Benefits I was receiving each month, which were actually MORE than the kids get for SSDI, so that means I had even less once he got approved. So I was using the credit cards to live. And it was just a domino effect. I need a fresh start.

            • Wish I could select more than 1. But divorced an alcoholic, then remodeled my house for me and my children which later led to excessive credit card bills. I just wanted to provide my kids with a better life after the divorce and thought I could handle it all. Being a single parent is really hard and even though I thought I made decent money and could provide for my kids, the credit cards just got to be too much and out of hand. I do not wish this on anyone else. Good luck to all in whatever route you decide to take.
