    Hey, check this out!

I was discharged in January 2007 and my credit score is already 682 (Transunion)!

I spoke to a mortgage guy about applying for a mortgage but he said that most mortgage companies won't consider you until it's been at least a year past your BK discharge.

So I'm going to try again after January 2008, by then my credit score will probably be in the 700s!

Oh, and of course I am getting lots of offers for credit cards, but I only accepted one, it had no annual fee and a low permanent interest rate, and although I do use it I pay it in full early every month.

This whole bankruptcy thing hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it would be!

I was discharged as a no asset 7.

I had like about $30,000 in credit card debt, which turned into about $40,000 in no time once I stopped making payments, penalties, interest, etc.

I had a 2001 vehicle I owed less than 9K on, that loan was discharged but I wanted to keep it. I was making the payments but was about to have to interact with the bank on whether or not I was going to reaffirm the loan or surrender the vehicle when I lucked into enough money to pay it off (my brother had died a few months before, my other brother got his life insurance and gave me 10K of it).

Soooooo, one or two months after the discharge I was completely debt free, which I still am and plan to stay that way. Like I said, I use my one Visa card to make random purchases every month and then pay it off early before the due date.

I did not own a house so that made it easier, less complicated, but overall it was not a bad experience.

In fact, I have managed to keep pretty much everybody I know (family, friends, employer, landlord, etc.) from even knowing I went BK, which just amazes me.

With a score like that, if it is your mid score you can get a mortgage now. But the wise thing to do is to wait a year because the overall housing market is bad.

No question you can get a mortgage poat bk. The important question to ask is, "what are the terms"? You sure don't want to end up in the subprime end of the pool with a high interest rate and large fees.
            Be sure and shop around.
