    Farmers Insurance????

Does anyone here have farmers insurance or know of anyone who has farmers insurance? I am talking for auto or home.

I can't remember but I think one of my cousins had them & they were a real good company. I received a letter in the snail mail today & am going to the agent in the morning to see about price. I have been with the same company for over a decade but my agent is moving & I they want me to find a better insurance company, well not better but I use my home state for the liablility part & would like it all under one comapny (I think- not sure but that is what I think is best).

It would also be good to know if they are BK friendly or do they cancel people after BK?

Any replies is much appreciated & Thank You in advance

I put this under the wrong forum. Sorry about that. I meant if for the General, not general BK but maybe this will be ok after all since I want to know if they are BK friendly before I buy from them.

Consumer Report rates insurance companies. USAA and Amica were at the top of the list. Farmers was well down the list, if I rembember correctly.
Remember that you are buying their claims service and not the lowest price.

I have them now. I'm about to file....just days away. I like them. I have my condo and car through them. My mom's neighbor got a really nice settlement for hail damage a few years ago, with very little hassle. There is a $25 fee to become a member, but if you are going to save me a couple of hundred dollars, I'm willing to give you that $25.

I've been with USAA for years and haven't had a problem. I am not sure how they are about BK's though.

Thanks all. I don' tknow what to do any more.

I am pretty sure Farmers have a very good reputation & the agent I talked to can get me into all kinds of different insurance. I am scattered all over the Universe right now & I wish I could get more things like this closer to home.

I guess it is the searching & comparing that is so time consuming which is one reason I really appreciate this board. People here have the experience in many areas of finances, law & different companies.

You mentioned claims service, but I also want someone who does not go around canceling everyone just because it rained two inches, like Allstate does. They used to be the best but not since all the yuppies moved in. I know one of the yuppy executives personally & that company stinks to high heavens these days. My cousin had two wrecks IN A MONTH (not his fault) & both times the person at fault had Allstate- REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES ON HIS CAR.

I never heard of USAA and Amica

woohoogirl, I noticed that Farmers offers discounts for everything in auto, the list was pretty long.

Everytime I have ever called Geico, their rate is almost double what I pay now...I don't get it because others get better rates.

We are military so that is how we found out about USAA.

I used to have Allstate and their rates were double what I pay now. I also have used State Farm, they were ok but rates weren't the best.
I've never used Geico before so not sure how they are.

USAA offers a lot of discounts as well.

I used to work for a Farmers agent, until I moved out of state. I recommended my family so now they all have Farmers. I don't though because I saved some cash and went with a small town insurance company. Farmers was great though, there is the membership fee you pay one time but otherwise, they are good with claims and have the lowest prices. 800-helppoint is the # for claims, usually pretty quick with getting things taken care of. That was my own personal experience, I was a customer before I worked there so I was already happy with them.

Oh, and no, they won't cancel you just because of a BK. All insurance companies have a rating system that is based on factors such as your credit, age, auto accident history and so on. The insurance agent puts in your info and ends up with a letter, in my case "o", and your rate is based on that letter and the other factors. They won't even know you filed.

                Good luck...

I don't have them, but I have State Farm and they are BK Friendly, so far. We were discharged in October and haven't heard a peep out of them about it.

rilbrianne, if you worked there & also used them, then you would definately know if they cancel people or not for BK. Much Thanks.

Anyone else here working for Farmers want to be my agent? I skipped my appointment today because I was still not sure what to do.

This forum is so awesome & packed with good information. Much obliged to everyones replies as I am sucking it all up like a big dry sponge.

Stay away from Farmers - they weasel themselves out of paying. They were the worst when Katrina hit

That sounds like Allstate. Are you sure you did not get the two mixed up? Did Farmers also move totally out of Florida & the gulf coast like Allstate did?

A friend tried to get Farmers insurance and they told her that if she had a bk they could not do it.

Thanks for the notes all. I dont know what to do so I will just stay where I am for awhile with UAI & my other auto full coverage. I hope they don't cancel me after all these years.

Hi - I was with Allstate for the longest (auto & home); then the 3 year term came up. They pulled my credit report and saw that I was late on some of my credit cards.

You want to know what happened? They triple my rate on my auto. Yes, 2 vehicle before was $89. Now they wanted $240 a month.

I dropped them, search around. I went w/ Farmers. They saved my A$$!!

I pay still little more because of bad credit score, but never was I once late on my secure and bills, only late on the credit cards

I guess my priority was not straight for Allstate.
                              Well screw'em!!

                              (no accident, tickets or claims)
