Student loans

If I file I will qualify for chapter 7. Presently I am just on the verge of delinquency. I could probably go quite a long time before I need to file. If I stopped paying everyone and made large payments to my student loans would that be ok?

It would not be ok to make LARGE payments.

Why do that anyway...use the savings from not paying your creditors for something more beneficial, i.e. to pay an attorney, open an IRA, etc.

Maybe some background. How much are the student loans and how much debt are you going to default on? How much are the large payments going to be and what is the source of the money?
