    hey laura,

In my case, once I decided to file, I stopped paying the cards. I needed to start saving to pay the attorney.

Anyway, my calls didn't start until a month after I missed the first payment. I've accidentally missed a payment occasionally. (I would call and ask them to suspend the fine and any interest hike, and they would do so.) So I think you have 30 days for the due date before the calls really start coming.

It's when you miss the second payment in a row that they start calling--they've got computers and they call me sometimes every 20 minutes ... but as soon as I hear it, I hit the silencer. Occasionally I pick up and talk to the folks just to "shut them up."

The funny thing is that once I decided on bk, I got very relaxed in talking to them. "I can't pay. I don't know when I'll be able to pay." ... Usually, I hit click and am gone ....

You can make it. Think of all the great things you'll be able to do and feel once you're past all this ridiculous debt. Once I decided on this, I really felt like I could dream again, think of really living again.

    Good luck!

Thanks again everyone...you all are great.

We have Caller-ID. Our phone lines and TV and through the same cable provider, so if I call comes through and the TV is on, the phone # will show on the TV.

Whenever a call comes through for a number that is vague or I don't recognize the name, I don't pick it up anyway, it's usually a telemarketer. LOL. We can also turn the ringer off on our phones.

I work for an insurance company, and I get phone calls all the time from policyholders who are being harassed by collection agencies. 98% of the time, the healthcare provider sending bills to collection agencies filed there claims to the wrong insurance company or a completely incorrect address, so we never got them claim. So I like calling the collection agencies and telling them they screwed up, and to stop harassing these poor people. But in my case it will be different.

That's what my attorney is for.

Anyway, we put down our retainer fee yesterday. We have to take the debt couseling classes online, pay the lawyer the remainder of his fee before we can actually file. Won't take too long, since we won't be feeding the monster anymore. (CC bills).

          Thanks again,
