Got my first phone call today...and it was at WORK!!

Well, my first payment is past due. And they call my work number and left me a message. Not sure if I should call them back and talk to someone. Tell them what I am planning? To ask them not to call at work?

I wish I could come up with the attorney fees right away. Ugh.

Yes, I would call them back and tell them that your employer does not permit these calls at work. I would tell them that I am in the process of declaring bankruptcy and retaining a lawyer. It may delay them until you have an attorney's number to give them. They tend to call on a daily basis and the nasty ones call several times a day.

      Brookamy,

You can easily solve this one. You can call them back and politely instruct them NOT to call you at work and they are obligated to stop. Just do it firmly and politely and they will write it down in the computer ... I got several calls (from different creditors) at work, and I told them to stop calling, and they did.

If you want to be ultra tough, you can add that you will report them to the state attorney general's office if they call you again at work.

The last time I got calls at work was 20 years ago when I was chronically late on my car payments. I would get calls at work. But all my coworkers were young and also behind on car payments. So we would laugh. But I didn't know then that if you request them to stop, they are required to. It's the law, I think in most states.

Too bad we can't tell them the same about home!

      Good luck.

        Hi Brook,

How behind are you in your payments and which cc company was it that called? I don't want anyone calling work!

        Thanks,

It was Bank of America and the payment was due on the 6th. So not very late at all....

Wow! I started receiving calls about 2-3 weeks after I was late. BofA has been really nice to me, considering I had two cc accounts with them and they were both less than a year old!

Hang in there Brook, make sure to call them back and (firmly) request that they don't call you at work anymore!

BofA are asses ! They called me at work a couple of times and I had told them I wasn't permitted to get calls there and they would keep on talking ! The last thing you need is them calling you at work it makes it hard to concentrate !! I am so glad the calls stopped once when we filed, it was sooooooooooo stressful !!!!!!!!!!

I have my chase CCs that were due on the 6th and the 11th. Wonder how long it will take for them to catch on. I logged on and notice there was the typical $39 late fee already on there. But that is all. When they call, it will be...here is my atty's number, call her. Hopefully you can gather the money together soon enough and rettain your atty. It can be difficult, even though we are not paying CCs for the first time this month, we are almost drained completely. Next month will be our first positive cash flow month in a while.

Geez, they called me once at work. It had been a couple of months of missed payments. The only reason they called me at work was because I moved and changed my number.

I agree with everyone else. Let them know you can't receive calls at work, but give them an alternate number to contact you because if they don't have any other means of getting in touch with you, they'll use any number they have. I know it's a pain to have to hear their debt collection calls, but they might not respect your wishes not to be contacted at work if they don't have any other alternative.

I know EXACTLY how you feel because my biggest problem was saving enough to hire my atty., but you'll do it just stay strong.
